Festival Information

DRIFT, the Mornington Peninsula’s annual festival of art, music and celebration is returning for its second year.

For 10 days in April, DRIFT will bring the Peninsula’s venues, places and spaces to life with art of all disciplines, including performance, music, visual arts, film, public art installations, multimedia and projections, writing and literature and local food and wine, offering exciting new opportunities to experience the best of the region.

DRIFT is more than just a vehicle for creativity. It’s the visible patterns on our vast land and seascapes, and on its people. Drift reveals the energy of movement; a state of constant change that draws inspiration from the past and points to the future, finding new patterns among the old, and providing unique and memorable experiences for each moment in time.

DRIFT aims to nurture and celebrate our shared identity as well as our differences. It honours our creative community while also bringing fresh new talent into our region to inspire creative and artistic practices and broaden our perspectives. It’s the optimal backdrop to explore our incredible region, and a timely call to action for participation and connectedness.

Come and immerse yourself in this continuity of history. Come and drift with us. Friday 21 April – Sunday 30 April.

DRIFT is brought to you by Mornington Peninsula Shire.

TICKETING

Tickets are available for purchase via the website. To buy a ticket for a show, navigate to an individual event page and click the ‘Get Tickets’ button.

The button looks like this:

Get Tickets

DRIFT Arts Festival may use different ticketing agencies for different shows and venues. Some of these ticketing agencies have different requirements and logins. This is because a significant part of the DRIFT program is community-led, meaning that income from ticketing goes directly into the hands of the artists.

There are also a number of shows that are free to attend, though still require registration via a ticketing link. This is so we can ensure that the audience numbers are appropriate for the venues – it’s also so we can keep you updated if there are any changes to the program. Any events with a ticket fee will be outlined on the event listing.

If you require assistance purchasing tickets for an event, please call us on 03 5950 1000 between 8:30am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, and our friendly customer service staff will be able to assist.

FAQ

What is DRIFT?

DRIFT is Mornington Peninsula Shire’s annual celebration of art, music and creativity. Now in its second year, DRIFT brings the Peninsula’s venues, places and spaces to life with art of all disciplines, including performance, music, visual arts, film, public art installations, multimedia and projections, writing and literature and local food and wine. DRIFT Arts Festival is a platform for emerging, mid-career and established artists of all disciplines to present their work to new audiences. Through delivery of this festival, we aim to nurture and support our creative sector, and further contribute to our reputation as the Creative Peninsula. DRIFT honours our creative community while also bringing fresh new talent into our region to inspire creative and artistic practices and broaden our perspectives. Through DRIFT, the Mornington Peninsula Shire aims to produce, enable and support new and diverse works, develop audiences, create opportunities and employment for local artists and arts workers, and reflect our unique Mornington Peninsula environment and identity.

Where is DRIFT held?

DRIFT takes place in venues all around the Mornington Peninsula, from Shire-owned halls and public outdoor spaces, to beaches, music venues, bars, shops and everything in between. A significant part of our program is community led (also known as ‘open access’, in arts festival terms); Mornington Peninsula Shire do not run or operate the private venues, however we are excited to include them in our program as they are a vital part of the Peninsula’s cultural fabric.

To view all of the participating venues, please click the ‘Map’ button on the Program page.

Are there any free events?

There are plenty of events that are free to attend! The 'Program' page has a filter for free events for easy identification. Some events are free + require registration via Eventbrite so that we can ensure that the audience numbers are appropriate for the venues. These are identified on the individual event pages.

Can i come and have a drink at the Hub?

Yes of course! Please note though that our Hub bar is subject to strictly managed capacities. If patron numbers are approaching capacity, we will be prioritising entry to ticketholders for shows at the Shoreline Big Top.

We strongly recommend you pre-purchase tickets to shows in case of sell out.

Is DRIFT accessible for audiences?

We aim to make our Shire-produced and keynote events as accessible as possible. We've also worked with our community event organisers to gather information about their venues and events. The 'Program' page contains filters to inform audiences whether an event has Auslan interpretation, audio description, captioned performance, assistive listening and is wheelchair accessible. If you have any questions about event accessibility, please feel free to get in touch with us at festivalsandevents@mornpen.vic.gov.au

I have a question about age suitability

We do our best to provide accurate information about age suitability of show content. Events that have mature content will have a ‘15+’ label. It is suggested that these shows are suitable for people 15 and older, however this is subject to parental discretion.

Some shows may contain coarse language, nudity or adult themes, and will be labelled ‘18+’. Again, this is subject to parental discretion.

Shows labelled ‘18+ restricted’ are strictly 18+ only, and attendees will be asked to provide photo ID.

If you have any questions about event content, please get in touch with us at festivalsandevents@mornpen.vic.gov.au
