Through movement, writing and conversation we will explore histories and create imaginaries for our collective future.

Naarm (Melbourne) based, queer identifying artist and choreographer Zoë Bastin will facilitate a three-hour movement workshop as part of How We Rise - an experimental dance project working site responsively to the waves and coastal ecologies of Merricks Beach.
Waves are an iconic symbol of Australian identity. In coastal communities the ocean is influential in shaping connections between human and more-than-human worlds. In this workshop we'll explore how waves might become a compelling metaphor to consider our relationship to forces more powerful than ourselves.
Through reflective writing tasks we will create improvised movement scores that embody our shared experiences of the ocean. There will be opportunities for guided movement, self-exploration and conversation. Zoë would love to hear what waves mean to you as we delve into personal histories and future imaginaries that have the power to transform our world.
Zoë is a firm believer that everyBODY can dance! All experience levels and abilities are welcome.
Afternoon tea provided. Please bring your own water bottle.
