Sea State is an imagining of radical empathy between bodies of water. Through photography, soundscape and a site specific outdoor set, this multidisciplinary work breathes life from one sea (the biodiverse Westernport Bay / Warn Marrung in Australia) to another (the dying Salton Sea / Lake Cahuilla in the United States).
Part one in this three part series was presented at the 2022 Bombay Beach Biennale in the backyard of a post apocalyptic house on the shores of the Salton Sea. *Sea State + 2 * is a reciprocation. Presented in the backyard of a house in a tranquil seaside village on the shores of Westernport Bay. It empowers the dying Salton Sea to breathe life back, in return.
Sea State is a work by artist Janenne Willis made in collaboration with Tilman Robinson, Rosie Sayers, Geoffrey Watson, I Am You, Hinetera Marino, Uma Spender and Sacha Guggenheimer.
This work is made and presented on the unceded lands of the Bunurong, Boon Wurrung and Cahuilla peoples. I acknowledge with deep reverence the connection all First peoples have to country and culture.
Open daily between 10:00am - 5:00pm. This event is free and family friendly.
